Two stores are better than one

MARSHFIELD – A local entrepreneur is forging his own path in the business world with a model that could be tagged with the slogan, “Two stores are better than one.”
Brian Kinczfogel owns Perfect 10 Outdoors in Neillsville and recently purchased an outdoor sports store in Marshfield, a move he made after just a few years in business.
“So, I grew up just south of Beaver Dam, right around Horicon area. I originally went into the Neillsville area. My mom and dad bought a place over there about 20 years ago, so I’ve been kind of in this general area for about 20 years or so. And then when I got done with high school, I went to college in Wood County/Marshfield here, got my business degree through them and went and did some work,” Kinczfogel said.
“I was a manufacturing engineer for a couple of years. Then, I actually went through my last full-time job before I started my business as I was a cost analyst for a commercial millwork company. So, I did that for four years. A year and a half of which I had worked full time while I started the other store.
“So, the first store I started was Perfect 10 Outdoors over in Neillsville. So, I bought that piece of property back in 2019. Built a brand new building from scratch and opened that in the heart of the pandemic, right in August of 2012. Everybody else was going out of business and struggling, and I thought it was a great idea to start my own business in the middle of the pandemic, but it did turn out very well. I mean now we’re two years later coming up, that place is running phenomenally.”
His success in Neillsville provided the means to purchase Bullseye Sports in Marshfield when previous owner Scott Schoenherr looked toward retirement.
“It gave me the opportunity to be able to jump into this when Scott just so happened to be getting ready to go into retirement. So yeah, it’s pretty crazy to see two years later where we were to where we are now,” Kinczfogel added.
“I would say for the most part all of our main lines being our archery, crossbows, firearms optics-wise, we’re the same. Here, I would say we’re a little bit heavier on the firearms end of things. Whereas, over there, I’m a little bit heavier on the land management work, tree stands, food plot work; we do a tremendous amount of things with that.
“That is probably one of the only places I’m aware of that do complete start to finish, everything, with food plots and land management work. So I mean, we’ll go from straight timber and trees to ready-to-plant and have everything – soil test done, planting done. It’s one of those, you tell us where you want it, and you’ll come back in a month it’s done.
“So, that’s something I only offer over there for the most part. But other than that, a lot of the same product lines all overlap, which is really, really going to help boost I think both places, being able to carry out a broader (range) of inventory, with just less stuff sitting in the back room. So, I think in that aspect of it, it’s going to really, really help both places.”
But, Kinczfogel gives much of the credit for juggling two stores to a supportive and knowledgeable staff.
“I’ve got four guys in Marshfield, and I’ve got two guys over at Neillsville plus myself, so between the group of us, I think we’ve got a really, really good put together team and the biggest thing that makes me happy and excited about this is the guys worked together really well; which that is going to be the spike in success that we’re going to have with both of these places, is being able to leverage each location of some product that may not be here but maybe over there and vice versa,” he said.
“So in the last three months that we’ve kind of closed off this first quarter of the year, I am beyond shocked to see where we are. Obviously, there’s expectations and goals that need to be set and fulfilled after, but seeing them actually being met is very, very pleasing.”
