WISCONSIN RAPIDS – More than 400 students from four area high schools converged at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus of Mid-State Technical College on March 8. Students from Auburndale, Loyal, Neillsville and Stevens Point Area Senior High were there for the College’s fall Program Showcase career exploration event. The popular biannual event invites area high school students to experience hands-on demonstrations of many of Mid-State’s 65+ programs as well as learn about student services and student life activities.
SPASH assistant principal Brigitta Altmann-Austin said the showcase gives students a look into potential career pathways.

“We are grateful for the continued partnership with Mid-State and for the opportunity they gave our students to see so many great program offerings,” said Altmann-Austin. “It is so important that we expose students to their options after graduation so they can make the best decision for their post-secondary education and understand what Mid-State can offer for them.”

Program Showcase allows students the opportunity to meet with current Mid-State students, staff and program faculty, while seeing campus labs and experiencing the hands-on learning that Mid-State offers. Students are provided a bingo card of all participating programs with the goal of stopping by as many stations as they can. Activities included a radar gun run (Criminal Justice-Studies), learning how to practice CPR on human and K9 manikins (EMT-Paramedic), identifying and learning the functions of different tools (Industrial Mechanical Technician) and matching codes (Health Information Management/Medical Coding). Students with three or more bingos were entered to win Mid-State prizes and gift cards.
