Comets hand Tigers first loss

WAUPACA – After opening the season with wins over Medford, Stoughton and Black River Falls, the Marshfield boys’ hockey team came up short in its Nov. 30 non-conference matchup with Marshfield.
Waupaca scored the game’s first three goals and ended up handing the Tigers a 3-1 nonconference loss Nov. 30 at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center.
Ryan Mace gave the Comets a 1-0 lead in the first period before Levi Olson and Sawyer Mielke found the net in the second period.
Payton Smith scored four minutes into the third period for Marshfield off of an assist from Sawyer Schindler.
Waupaca goalie Hagen Rasmussen saved 32 of the Tigers’ 33 shots, while Marshfield’s Cole Halvorsen finished with 25 saves.
Marshfield will open Wisconsin Valley Conference play Dec. 2, in Wisconsin Rapids. Faceoff at the South Wood County Recreation Center is set for 7 p.m.
