Hometown: Spencer

High school attended: Spencer High School

Current program or major: Business administration

Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

I chose UWSP at Marshfield because I wanted to stay close to my family. I have three younger brothers that mean the world to me, and my wife, Alexis, and I planned on purchasing our first home in Marshfield near her parents. UWSP at Marshfield gives me the opportunity to receive a high-quality education and play basketball while establishing my family and career in Central Wisconsin.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

Support and flexibility seemed to be key focal points at UWSP at Marshfield when I arrived on campus. No matter where you go, a faculty member or student is always willing to help you reach your goals. Additionally, my professors and advisors helped make sure my course schedule was beneficial and impactful between work and athletics.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty/staff help?

While I’ve always known my purpose, many UWSP at Marshfield staff members helped foster those beliefs and dreams. Through support, direction and knowledgeable education, they have inspired me to fully embrace this journey and look to my future.  My basketball coaches, Jared and Brent Ystad, are just two of these many mentors.

Why did you choose your program/major?

I thrive and love working within a team setting, towards a common goal. I decided on a business administration major because I strongly believe in the power of communication, teamwork and progression, especially within a business/organization setting. I also want to absorb all the material needed to start my own businesses in the near future.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

I have had many excellent professors and mentors at the Marshfield campus.  Several that stand out are Assistant Professor James Servi, Associate Professor Jill Stukenberg and Professor Jeffrey Kleiman.  All have challenged me to perform at a high level and encouraged me to grow as a student beyond my years at UWSP.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

Outside of schooling and work, my free time is occupied by house projects, basketball, photography, writing and video game playing and development. My wife and I are always working on improvements to our home, and I enjoy using Photoshop and game development engines. I would much rather be busy than bored!

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

My plan is to continue building my career and family here in central Wisconsin. I would like to begin building my businesses and investments and return some of that back to the communities that provided for me growing up.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice do you have for incomingstudents?

Stay busy. Put yourself out there. Create and develop things. Build connections and teams. Don’t be afraid to messup but be dedicated enough to start at square one again.
