MARSHFIELD – Marshfield police are investigating the theft of a collection box and donations from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The thefts occurred May 31 around 10 p.m.
Investigators say the suspect entered the south side church through an unlocked door, and spent about four minutes wandering around, before finding a custom-made metal collection drop box with a cross on the front. Security camera footage then shows the suspect ripping the box off the wall and leaving the building.
The suspect was said be wearing all black clothing, including gloves, a hood, and a face mask. He also wore a dark jacket that had reflective lining on the sleeves and back.
Pastor Keith Kitzhaber estimated the stolen drop box had about $125 inside. The box itself is said to be worth $200, according to the police report. No further information has been released, and detectives are continuing to investigate.
