WOOD COUNTY – Wood County officials have identified the man who died in a fire incident in the town of Marshfield.

On April 5, shortly after noon, the Wood County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a location on Marshfield Road in the town of Marshfield.

“The caller reported a fire in the ditch and a person down in the fire. Upon arrival emergency personnel located a 79-year-old male who was deceased in the burn area. It is believed the male subject was tending to this burn when he suffered an unknown issue and succumbed to the fire. The man was declared deceased at the scene. This incident is not believed to be suspicious,” a sheriff’s release stated.

The man was identified as Jerald E. Lang, 79, of the town of Marshfield.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Wood County Coroner’s Office, Marshfield Fire Department, Richfield Fire Department, and Hewitt Fire Department assisted with the fire and investigation.
