Kauffman competes at national tourney

MARSHFIELD – Stratford’s Mason Kauffman is competing at the 2021 NCAA college wrestling championships March 18-20 in St. Louis, MO.
Wrestling at 174 and ranked at No. 22, the Northern Illinois University standout lost his first-round match 3-2 to No. 11 Austin Murphy of Campbell University (N.C.) on March 18. In the wrestlebacks – or consolation round – that evening, Kauffman defeated Dakota Howard of Virginia Tech 3-1 in OT. Kauffman improved his record to 14-5 with the win, and is wrestling No. 5 Logan Massa of Michigan in a second-round consolation match on March 19. Kauffam compiled a 133-0 record at Stratford High School, and was a two-time state champion. Mason finished 34-0 his senior year on his way to the state title at 152 lbs. Kauffman’s efforts helped Stratford to a 21-1 record and a team state championship his senior season. Mason gave up just two takedowns his entire high school career.
