MARSHFIELD – A Stratford-area father and son have been arrested in connection with the December death of a Marshfield man.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department released a statement regarding the arrest of 50-year-old Shawn Carl on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide. He’s accused of killing 20-year-old Christian Schauer, whose body was found Dec. 29 in the McMillan Marsh Wildlife Area, north of Marshfield. Carl is also charged with possession of a fully-automatic rifle.

His son, 19-year-old Jared Carl, is charged with possession of stolen property, along with drug and weapons charges. Schauer’s missing vehicle, a black 2005 Chevy Impala, was found on Jared Carl’s property in the town of Eau Pleine, after investigators acted on a tip from a citizen.

Shawn Carl is scheduled to make a preliminary appearance in Marathon County Circuit Court on Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. No other information is being released at this time.
