MARSHFIELD – The city of Marshfield will resume late fees on unpaid sanitary sewer charges.

The Marshfield Common Council passed Resolution 2020-32 in the consent portion of the agenda, during the Aug. 11 council meeting, in favor of terminating the temporary suspension of late fees imposed on unpaid sanitary sewer charges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Public Service Commission (PSC) directed water utilities in the state of Wisconsin to stop charging late fees on water utility bills, to help relieve payment pressure on the rate payers that might fall behind on payments.

In April 2020, the common council passed a resolution and agreed to follow the same guidelines with wastewater utilities and suspend the late fees.

In July, the PSC directed the utilities to again charge late fees on any accounts for usage after July 15.

City wastewater utilities will begin charging late fees on usage after July 15.
