WOOD COUNTY – One person is dead following an accident in the Wood County town of Lincoln.

On Aug. 13 at about 4:15 p.m., the Wood County Dispatch center received a call of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of County Hwy H and County Highway V.

Wood County Sheriff deputies, the Lincoln fire department, Lincoln First Responders, and Marshfield Ambulance responded to the scene.

Upon initial investigation, deputies say that a SUV traveling southbound on County Highway V failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign to a westbound pickup truck on County Highway H.

The driver of the SUV, Rita M. Davis, 35, of Westby, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wood County coroner.

The driver of the pickup truck, David F. Appleyard, 58, of Neillsville, is in serious condition.

The accident is still under investigation, with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time, until the families have been notified.
