Chaps get back in the win column

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals broke a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over the Pittsville River Bandits July 22 at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.
The Chaps won despite being outhit by the Bandits 5-2, and despite three errors. Marshfield scored the only run of the game in the third inning, on a sacrifice fly by Luke Wirtz.
Caleb Krommenakker picked up the win. He lasted six innings, and struck out eight Pittsville batters while walking just one and allowing three hits. Caleb also had one of two Marshfield hits. Hunter Korger pitched the final three innings, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking three.
For Pittsville, Justin Rayburn singled and doubled, and Sawyer Ladick, Ben Buettner, and Ryan Parkison singled. Pittsville pitcher Joey Becker took the loss, tossing a complete game while striking out four and walking four.
The Chaps improved to 10-2 with the win, and are back in action July 24 at Hackman Field against Sparta. Game time is 7:15 p.m. The game will also be broadcast on AM 1450 WDLB.
