Chaps start season undefeated

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals are undefeated to start the season.
The Chaps grabbed a 6-3 victory over the Everest Merchants in a non-league game on June 17 at Jack Hackman Field. The Chaps broke open a close game in the fourth, with five runs and the help of three Everest errors.
The Chaps were led by Nathan Krommenakker, with two hits, including a double and two runs scored.
Caleb Krommenakker, was the starting and winning pitcher for the Chaps, allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work. Hunter Korger and Kade Lancour struck out five batters in two innings for the Chaps win.
The team then traveled to Minocqua to face the Wood Ducks on June 21, where they secured a 6-3 win in Dairyland League action.
The Chaps then returned to Hackman field to face the Pittsville River Bandits on June 24.
Ethan Peters pitched a shutout, allowing just three hits, while serving up 13 strikeouts and no walks.
Donavon Brandl with had two hits and three RBIs; Luke Wirtz had two hits – including a double – and three RBIs.
Nathan Dupee had two hits for the River Bandits.
After the Eau Claire game for June 25 was cancelled, the Chaps were next scheduled to meet the River Bandits on June 28 in Pittsville, starting at 1:30 p.m. The game will start a “Yellow River Rivalry,” with the winner receiving a travelling trophy.
