One dead and two injured in Wood County crash

WOOD COUNTY – One person is dead and two are injured following a Wood County crash, in the town of Sigel.

On June 14, shortly before noon, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department responded to a crash at the intersection of State Highway 73 and State Highway 186.

During the initial investigation, deputies learned that a southbound dump truck on State Highway 186 failed to yield at a stop sign, for a westbound vehicle on State Highway 73.

The three occupants of the passenger car were trapped in the vehicle. The female driver and juvenile passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to Marshfield Medical Center by Life Link and Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, respectively.

The front occupant in the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries.

State Highway 73 and State Highway 186 were closed following the accident.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Vesper Fire Department, United Ambulance, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Life Link Ill, Wood County Highway Department, and the Wood County Coroner.

Names are not being released at this time.
