Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

I chose UW- Stevens Point at Marshfield because it’s close to home.  Since my family is a priority to me, I wanted to be around for important events like my younger siblings’ birthdays and school dances. UWSP at Marshfield is also incredibly cost effective. Additionally, I took some Early College Credit Program classes through the university during my last two years of high school. I really enjoyed the bonds I formed with professors and how much I learned.  UWSP at Marshfield really was a perfect fit for me since day one.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

I was surprised at how easily I made friends.  My plan was to show up, learn and go home.  I didn’t expect to meet so many nice people, but I’ve made many lifelong friends here, and I am incredibly grateful for that.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty/staff help?

In high school, I was part of a mentoring program and worked with underclassmen to help them finish homework and understand their class material. My passion lies in helping others. Coming to UWSP at Marshfield only solidified these thoughts.  The more time I spend here, the more I realize I am on track for a career I will absolutely love.

Why did you choose your program/major?

When I was a junior in high school, I had two surgeries to correct my genetic, bilateral hip dysplasia.  My recovery time opened my eyes to the demanding jobs that nurses have. From then on, I was certain I wanted to be a nurse.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

There have been many professors and staff at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield who I have thoroughly enjoyed, but Roberta White has been one of my favorites. She is incredibly open minded and willing to explain things as many times as needed so that I completely understand them. She makes labs enjoyable, and she is easy to talk to as well.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, painting, fishing and attending campus sporting events.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

After working as a nurse for a couple years, I plan to go back to school to become either a nurse practitioner or a nurse anesthetist.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice do you have for incoming students?

I recommend taking college-level courses to high school students. Throughout my junior and senior years, I took upwards of 20 college credits through UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield’s Early College Credit Program. Not only did those courses prepare me for being a full-time studentbut allowed me to save money and shorten time to a degree. Although this is my first year as a full-time student, I am a sophomore academically because of the number of credits I earned in high school. I’m extremely proud of that.
