Hazel Lucile (Woodrum) Spindler, 89, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wed. April 29th at the House of the Dove, Marshfield, WI.  Hazel was born March 6, 1931 at home in a small Nebraska town. Her parents were Lucile (Kolste) and Burl Woodrum.

She grew up in Gordon, Nebraska attending both Elementary and High School, graduating in 1949 (class of ‘49ers).

In 1950 she moved to Denver, CO where she worked in the Federal Reserve Bank. In 1953 she moved to Rapid City, SD where she married Lawrence Spindler. During a particularly hard, cold winter they decided to move to a warmer climate and were soon California bound.

She and her husband resided in California for 20 years during which time she worked as a Kelly Girl for Mills College, Oakland and Simpson Company, San Leandro, as well as other assignments around the Bay Area.

Upon Lawrence’s retirement they moved to Wisconsin to live life at a slower pace. Hazel took a job at the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation and eventually became Manager of the IRB (Institutional Review Board), a position she held until her retirement in 1995. After retirement she worked several part time jobs in the Treasurer’s Office in Marshfield and also Team Sporting Goods.

Sewing and quilting were Hazel’s passion. She was an active member in the Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild, a Monday Sew Group, and an art group where she greatly enjoyed the company of the ladies as well as the inspiration for creative fiber art.

She was predeceased by her parents and her four brothers, Irving, Merrill, Ted and Gilbert. Survivors include her two sons, David Bratzel (Susan) (W. Richland, WA), Larry Spindler (Marshfield), and a daughter Linda (Bob) Aldrich (Stratford); grandsons Jacob Aldrich, Aaron Aldrich, Matt (Amanda) Spindler, and Graham (Rachel) Bratzel; great grandchildren, Alivea, Ethan, Henry, and Carter; sister-in-law Carol Woodrum; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
