Spencer schools staff to hold social distancing parade for students

SPENCER – On April 24, the Spencer School District will host a “social distance parade.” District staff will decorate vehicles and drive through the district to wave at their students.

“We know that not every kid can participate, but maybe their caregivers could find it in their schedule to drive to one of the locations along the route,” a letter to the Spencer community said.

“We encourage the kids to make signs showing their Spencer Rocket pride. We’d also love to see the community and area businesses participate in the decorating as well.

 “Please remember to keep a safe distance and mingle only with those in your normal household or circle. We still need to be responsible as required by the stay at home order.”

The parade will start at the Spencer school facility at 11 a.m. a travel on Haslow, turning east on County Highway C, then south on County Highway F. The parade will cross State Highway 13 onto Karau Avenue, head south on Eagle Road, and turn west on West Mann Road.

At about 11:15 a.m., the parade will turn south on Oakbrook Drive, circle Oakbrook Drive, and cross Mann Road, before turning west on Purdy Lane. They will then turn north on County Highway V, turn west on West 26th Road, and turn north on Sunridge Road at about 11:20 a.m.

The parade will head north on County Highway V, before turning east on Casey Circle at about 11:25 a.m. They will then head north) on County Highway V.

As the parade comes into Spencer from the south, the parade will turn east on Willow Drive, head south on State Highway 13, before turning east on Apple Street at about 11:35 a.m.

They will then head north on Grant Street, west on Willow Drive, north on Jefferson Street, and west on Hemlock Street. 

After heading north on Truman Street, the parade will come out on State Highway 13 by Kwik Trip and head north. They will turn west on State Highway 98 and head south on La Salle Street.

At about 11:40 a.m., the parade will head west on Buse Street, then north on Chestnut Street, west on Robert Street, north on Washington Street, and east on State Highway 98.

At approximately 11:45 a.m, they will head north on Julia Street, east on West Main Street, south on Spring Street, east on Clark Street, north on La Salle Street, north on State Highway 13, east on Century Road, south on La Salle Street, and south on State Highway 13, before returning to school around noon.
