MARSHFIELD – Workers at Marshfield’s Masonite plant are on strike after rejecting a second offer from the company on April 7.

“It’s not an economic strike, it’s working conditions,” said Greg Coenen, business representative for the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters No. 1733. “(We) voted down a second offer from the company last night that had mandatory three weekend overtimes in a month and the people do not want to give up all of their weekends for work. Bottom line.”

Coenen is leading negotiations for the union. He said that he is currently waiting for a call from a federal mediator.

Masonite is located at 218 S. Palmetto Avenue, in Marshfield.
