Area girls teams compete in first round of regional basketball action

MARSHFIELD – The first round of regional action took place on Feb. 25 for area girls basketball teams.

Greenwood-Flambeau

Greenwood traveled to Flambeau to take on the higher seed for round one. Greenwood advanced with a 66-57 win.

Greenwood will play Prairie Farm on Feb. 28 for a Division 5 regional semifinal game.

Loyal-New Auburn

Loyal hosted New Auburn, and Loyal easily took the win over New Auburn, 74-28.

Remi Geiger led her team in scoring, hitting four 3-pointers on her way to 24 points. Savannah Schley put up 15 points; Natasha Tellock hit 13 points; and Katlyn Lindner hit three 3-pointers and added 12 points of her own.

Loyal will host Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran on Feb. 28 in a Division 5 regional semi-final game, start time is 7 p.m.

Columbus-Gilmanton

Columbus Catholic is moving onto the Division 5 regional semifinals as well, after a win at home on Feb. 25 against Gilmanton.

The first half of the game was a battle with the Dons taking a small lead of 17-14 into the second half.

The second half was a different story as Columbus overpowered Gilmanton 35-18 to win the game 52-32.

Columbus was lead Meghan Kibbel scoring 14 points, and Annika Brown added 11 for the Dons.

Columbus will travel on Feb. 28 to face Eleva-Strum in a regional semifinal game.

Stratford-Spencer

Stratford and Spencer faced off on Feb. 25 at Stratford High School where the Tiger girls took a 50-30 win over the Rockets.

Breanna Ackley scored 21 points for the Tigers with Emily Hughes adding 13.

Spencer’s Heavyn Kind was high for her team with eight points.

Stratford moves on to face Auburndale, who had a first round bye, at Auburndale High School on Feb. 28 for the Division 4 regional semifinal game at 7 p.m.

Abbotsford-Necedah

The Abbotsford girls team headed to Necedah and ended their season as Necedah won the regional game, 57-14.

Teams with first round byes

After a first round bye, Colby will host Pacelli on Feb. 28 for a Division 4 regional semifinal game at 7 p.m

Neillsville hosts Cadott in a Division 4 regional semifinal game on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

Marshfield will host Superior on Feb. 28 for a Division 1 regional game, start time is 7 p.m.
