Several area wrestlers headed to the state tournament

MARSHFIELD – In Division 1, Marshfield is sending five wrestlers to the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament. Representing the Tigers are sectional champions: Keagan Cliver (120), Hoyt Blaskowski (126), Brett Franklin (132), Gabe Pugh (138), and Ryan Dolezal (145).

In Division 2, wrestlers from Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal will move on. Luke Dux (106) was sectional champion, and Gunner Hoffmann (220) placed second to earn the trip.

Carter Grewe (195) of Abby-Colby wrestling placed third at sectionals to earn his spot at the state tournament.

Spencer/Columbus wrestling is sending two on.  Ashton Ackman (113) finished second and Treyton Ackman (120) finished third at the Osceola Sectionals.

For Division 3, there are multiple wrestlers heading to the tournament. Auburndale’s Dylan Baird (138) placed third at sectionals to move on. Pittsville is sending two wrestlers – Peter Esser (106) who placed third at sectionals and Camron Dammann (132) who finished second to earn his spot.

Stratford is sending seven wrestlers on. Gavin Drexler (126), Max Schwabe (132), Elijah Lucio (138), Devin Dennee (160), and Trevor Dennee (195) were all sectional champions at the Edgar Sectionals. Also headed to the state tournament for Stratford are Karter Stuttgen (113), who placed third, and Jacob Heiden (152), who placed second.

The WIAA State Tournament kicks off on Feb. 27 and will run through the championships, which are held on Feb. 29.
