Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

I chose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield because it was close to home. My younger siblings live an hour away in Medford, so I wanted to stay close to home to see them grow up. In addition to providing a quality education, the Marshfield campus was a more affordable option to start college, giving me time to decide where I want to complete my four-year degree.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

During freshman orientation, the professors and staff really showed they want to see you succeed. I was in disbelief and very happy to see how much they cared about their students.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty/staff help?

I don’t exactly know what my purpose is just yet, but I know I want to help people with a career in healthcare. Since I was very young, I wanted to be a doctor. My mother, who is retired now, is a former medical assistant. During her career, she worked in a variety of areas, including hematology, oncology and family practice medicine so you could say medicine is in my blood. I want to be a psychiatrist, a pediatrician, or an OBGYN doctor. I’m so excited for what the future may hold.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

I have two favorite instructors: Christine Klingbiel and Martin Lee. Christine was my English professor. She not only helped me improve my writing skills but gave me a better understanding of the type of content professors expect in writing assignments. Martin helped me with math, which has never come easy for me. He took time and put the effort in to help me understand algebra.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

Besides studying and working part time at Pick n’ Save, I like to read books, especially romance novels mysteries and thrillers. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?

After earning my associate degree, I will transfer either to the Stevens Point campus, UW-Eau Claire or UW-La Crosse to finish my bachelor’s degree.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice do you have for incoming students?

Make the most of your time here. Don’t be scared and have fun. Remember, no matter how challenging your classes may be, there are many people on campus, professors, staff and classmates, who are willing to help so don’t give up.
