Newman gets needed win against Auburndale

WAUSAU – The Wausau Newman Catholic girls got a needed win over Auburndale on Feb. 20, to keep them at the top of the Marawood South Conference.
The Auburndale girls led Newman Catholic 25-20 at break. In the second half, the Auburndale team couldn’t stop Jadelyn Ganski and Newman grabbed a 50-36 win.
Ganski led the Newman Catholic Cardinals in scoring, hitting four 3-pointers and totaling 20 points on the night. Julie Seidl added 15 points for the Cardinals.
Auburndale was led by Georgi Schmutzer, who hit four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points for the Apache girls.
Newman Catholic is now 14-2 in the Marawood Conference and Auburndale stays in second place with an 11-5 record.
Auburndale has a first round bye in regional play and will play the winner of Spencer and Stratford at home on Feb. 28.
Newman also has a first round bye and plays the winner of Almond-Bancroft and Gresham on Feb. 28 at home.
