Stratford grabs another regional championship; Tigers send 12 to sectionals

MARSHFIELD – The Stratford Tigers wrestling team won regionals in Cadott on Feb. 15 and will advance to team sectionals on Feb. 18 in Cumberland.
The Tigers took first with 296.5 points scored. Second place went to Cadott who had 276 points. Athens took third, with 172.5, followed by Marathon, Edgar, Cornell/Gilman, and Thorp.
Eight of Stratford’s wrestlers also took home individual titles as regional champions. Taking first was Karter Stuttgen (113), Gavin Drexler (126), Max Schwabe (132), Elijah Lucio (138), Konner Stuttgen (145), Jacob Heiden (152), Devin Dennee (160), and Trevor Dennee (195).
Also qualifying for the Tigers are the second place finishers, which included Benno Wenzel (120), Hunter Ford (170), Raife Smart (182), and Beau Gross (285).
Also participating in regionals for Stratford were Camryn Fisher (106), who placed fifth, and Cole Martin (220) who finished third.
“(I am) just so thrilled with the effort, intensity, and ability to get the bonus points by earning pins and tech falls,” said Head Coach Joe Schwabe. “The kids have a tough team sectional St Croix Falls but we will do our best.”
Stratford will participate in the Division 3 sectionals held in St. Croix Falls in Cumberland on Feb. 22.
