Marshfield hockey nets another big win, loses to Mosinee

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team netted another win against East/Merrill on Feb. 4, at the Merrill City Smith Multi Center.
The Tigers scored four of their nine goals in the first period. Scoring first was Evan Weister. Ian Haugen scored off of assists from Nick Urban and Noah Peterson. Goal No. 3 came from Urban, with Payton Smith and Noah Peterson giving the assists. The last goal scored in the first period was from Sawyer Schindler, assisted by Smith.
The second period quickly became the Tiger show again with another Urban goal. Haugen scored again, followed by another Urban goal.
Merrill/East finally got on the board with a late second period goal from Blake Raddatz, with assistance from Greg Glovinski.
Schindler and Peterson both scored in the third period to cement the 9-1 win for the Marshfield Tigers.
Marshfield goalies totaled eight saves – four for AJ Trierweiler and four for Cole Halverson.
Merrill East goalies had 34 combined saves – Jake Furrer had 14 and Truman Schull had 21.
Next up for the Marshfield Tigers was Mosinee. The Tigers hosted Mosinee for a nonconference matchup on Feb. 6, where they fell to the Indians, 4-1.
The game was tied 0-0 heading into the second period. Mosinee didn’t waste much time in the second period and ended up scoring three goals to take their team into a 3-0 lead.
In the third period, Urban scored their sole goal on a power play. Mosinee scored one more to give them the 4-1 win.
AJ Trierweiler had 26 saves for the Tigers.
Marshfield will host Wausau West, the leader of the Wisconsin Valley Conference, on Feb. 11.
