MARSHFIELD – On Feb. 5, Marshfield’s Joey Goettl signed his letter of intent at Marshfield High School, to continue his football career with DII Minnesota State-Mankato.

At Minnesota State, Goettl will move to cornerback from his quarterback position with the Marshfield Tigers.

Goettl said that he was approached by a Mankato coach while attending North Dakota State University camp. Then, after attending a Mankato camp, he was offered the position.

Goettl credited his parents, Denny and Marie, for their support through his sports career, first thanking his mom for being “a great loving, supporting sports mom.”

“I am so thankful for the work ethic you instilled in me and forcing me to lift, go to camps, and to give 100 percent all the time, no matter the conditions,” Joey said about his father. “I will never forget how awesome practices and games were with you being by my side. Thanks for letting me be me on the field and as a kid. Thank you for showing me what it takes to become a high school athlete.”

Goettl also credited his teammates, as well as current and former coaches.

“Thank you for teaching me every (nook) and cranny of this amazing sport,” he said about the Marshfield coaches. “Thanks for always being role models in my life and for always being there when I needed something. I will never forget the will to work hard and win. I will never forget that it is a mental game and you got to have the want to as Coach Luedtke says.”

“The things you’ve done to help him get better and like he said, drive him to do things that are going to let him have the opportunity to have the chance to go do something further in college, it’s on you guys,” added Joey’s dad, Denny. “It’s the Marshfield High School way; it’s the Marshfield High School kids; it’s the Marshfield high school attitude; it’s the Marshfield High School Len Luedtke want-to. It’s what puts you guys to different levels.”
