MARSHFIELD – On Jan. 27, the Marshfield hockey team traveled to Lakeland Union High School to play a nonconference game against Lakeland High School, where they won in overtime.
Marshfield was scoreless during the first two periods of the hockey game and was down 3-0 heading into the third period.
During the third period, however, Marshfield fought back with a goal from Noah Peterson. Less than a minute later, Ian Haugen scored on a power play assisted by Peterson. Marshfield then went on to event the score with a goal from Evan Weister, once again assisted by Peterson. Regulation time ended with a 3-3 tie and sent the game into overtime.
In just over a minute of overtime play, Marshfield scored to win the game. Scoring the winning goal was Weister, assisted by Haugen and Ben Lawyer.
Goalie AJ Trierweiler had 54 saves for the Tigers.
Coach Eric Bowman reflected on his team, “This was a great gut check for this team. AJ played well and guided us through some tough situations. The team responded well to some adjustments, and made plays when we needed to. They earned a nice win tonight against a tough team in Lakeland.”
Marshfield will host D.C. Everst on Jan. 30 for a conference game at 7 p.m. at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.
