TOWN OF RICHFIELD – Multiple departments were requested to the scene of a fire in the town of Richfield on Jan. 27.

At approximately 8:53 a.m., the Richfield Rural Fire Department was dispatched to 9050 Ader Lane, for a large two-story shed that was on fire.

Upon arrival firefighters found a 30 foot x 40 foot two story barn-style wood-framed structure, with metal siding, with heavy smoke emitting for the entry doors.

A Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) box alarm was requested for more assistance, along with some mutual aid requests for manpower. Fire Departments assisting were Arpin, Cameron, Rock, Vesper, Hewitt Area, Pittsville, Lincoln, Spencer, and Stratford Fire Departments. Additional assistance was provided by Wood County Central Rapid Intervention Team, Wood County Highway Department and Wood County Dispatch Center.

Two firefighters received minor injuries while on scene – one was injured by snow falling from the roof, while one was struck in the wrist by something that fell from the second story of the structure while performing interior operations.

The building suffered extensive interior damage and the contents suffered severe smoke and heat damage. The homeowners were present at the time of the fire and were not injured.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
