Strong second half allows Marauders to pull away

MARINETTE – The Marauders, without starting guard Ethan Posteluk (Marshfield), got off to a slow start on Jan. 17 against UWGB Marinette.

The Buccaneers, playing with five guys, came out very aggressive and played very well, defensively. The Marauders struggled to get going and adjust to the zone that was being thrown their way.  Two quick fouls on Roger Zeledon (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) and Joe Fields (Obama SCTE) cut into an already short bench.

Luckily for the Marauders, what their offense lacked, their defense was able to pick up.  A 3-pointer at the end of the first half by Jack Bezlyk (Spencer) gave the Marauders a 33-32 lead at half time.

A few halftime adjustments and some hot shooting allowed the Marauders to start to pull away from the Buccaneers. Joey Miller (Columbus) started to take over offensively.

With Marinette being down to five guys, the Marauders knew they could run and press the tempo.  Miller got several fast break layups and mixed in some deep threes that allowed the Marauders to open up a big lead.

All eight players for the Marauders scored in the game, making it the first time they have done so this year.  Miller lead the way with a season high 31 points. Joe Fields added 13 points, and Jack Bezlyk added 11 points.
