Loyal has big win against Columbus

MARSHFIELD – Loyal traveled to Columbus Catholic High School on Jan. 16 to take on the Columbus boys basketball team and had a big 80-69 win in the Cloverbelt conference game. It was just their eighth win over Marshfield Columbus dating back to 1966 and their third in the last 32 years.
Loyal had the lead at the half, 41-27. Columbus fought back in the second half outscoring the Greyhounds, 42-39, but it wasn’t enough to come back from their first half deficit.
High scorer for the night was Loyal’s Cole Bogdonovich with 34 points, while Trevyn Wilke had 19 and Daymain Baird earned 13. Columbus was led by Eden Jacobson with 20 points; Jadon Nienast with 17; and Tom Nystrom added 14.
Loyal will face Owen-Withee on Jan. 21 at home, game time is 7:15 p.m. Columbus Catholic will travel to Neillsville on Jan. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
