Auburndale earns conference win over Newman

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale hosted Wausau Newman Catholic boys basketball on Jan. 15 and earned another conference win.

Newman Catholic was able to keep pace for the first few minutes of the game, but Auburndale pulled ahead and took it to the locker room at the break, 49-26.

The second half was much of the same with Auburndale outscoring Newman, 36-25. Final score of the game was 85-51.

Hunter Wright and Fletcher Raab were unstoppable for Auburndale, with Wright netting 27 points and Raab hitting five 3-pointers to help him get 25 points for the Apaches. Cooper Weinfurter added 10 points and eight rebounds to help Auburndale.

Newman Catholic’s lead scorer, Thomas Bates, had 13 points for the Cardinals.

With the win, Auburndale’s record moves to 7-1 in conference, 11-1 overall. Newman Catholic falls to 2-6 in conference and 2-9 overall.

Auburndale will face Assumption at Assumption High School on Jan. 17 at 7:15 p.m. Newman Catholic will host a conference game against Marathon on Jan. 17, at 7:15 p.m.
