Rotary Winter Wonderland has successful year

MARSHFIELD – The 2019 holiday Rotary Winter Wonderland at Wildwood Park & Zoo saw another successful year, but season 14’s success was partially due to a call for business food drives.
Event visitors are asked to donate cans of food at the event gates for entry, and with one less weekend of operation, local businesses were asked to chip in by hosting in-house food drives as part of a “We Can Do It” effort.
Organizers say that the 2019 season saw the collection of approximately 45,000 cans of food at the gates, with an additional 10,000 collected through outside business food drives, for a total collection of 55,000. Last year’s collection netted 57,000.
“Cash donations were about 120 percent of our goal,” the volunteer committee said in a release
“Central Wisconsin’s response to this project has continued to amaze (us). The fact that we were able to exceed both our cash and canned items goals in 32 short days, speaks volumes about the generosity of our guests and local businesses as well as the hard work of our volunteer organizations.”
The group will host takedown days on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., with lunch included.
