Marshfield School Board to discuss dress code

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield School Board Policy & Legislation Committee will look into the district’s dress code.
Board member Dorothy Chaney said the committee will likely have a discussion soon regarding district code.
“What are the problems? Is there a gender bias with any dress-code violations? Is the dress code being enforced in schools consistently?” she stated.
Board member Dale Yakaites said the dress code issue is one the district should approach with caution.
“The dress-code issues have been issues throughout many school districts, and there has been a lot of legal issues that have taken place in various school districts–not only statewide, but nationally–regarding dress codes,” Yakaites said. “So, I’m sure that there will be some additional research done into some of those types of things if we look at changing our dress code, because that can really be a hot-button issue.”
Chaney gave no timeline as to when the Policy & Legislation Committee might begin conversations.
