MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys hockey team faced off against Rhinelander at home on Jan. 7 and shut out the Hodags, 2-0.

“We started really well tonight, and then in the second and third period we started playing too passively,” Coach Eric Bowman said after the game. “AJ Trierweiler bailed us out with a few really big saves, allowing us to pick up a win tonight.

“We did a good job taking care of business in front of the net and clearing out rebound opportunities.

“We had a few players play significant minutes for us tonight that have not been in the varsity rotation, and they stepped up and filled their roles for their teammates tonight. We are starting to catch our stride as we work through a difficult stretch of our schedule.”

Evan Weister and Nick Urban each scored one for the Tigers,

Goalie AJ Trierweiler had 37 saves on the night.

Marshfield moves to 7-5-1 record overall, 2-1 in Wisconsin Valley Conference play.

The Tigers travel to Wausau West on Jan. 9. Wausau West and SPASH are currently tied for the top of the conference.
