From the Publisher: The conversion to mail

Dear readers,

I have important news: We are converting our delivery of this newspaper, and all of our other newspapers, from carrier to U.S. Mail.

We came to this change reluctantly, because we know it means a loss of income for hundreds of loyal and hard-working carriers who have served us for years. We felt we had no choice but to make this change, because a recent regulatory action classified carriers as employees, dramatically increasing the cost to deliver.

On the plus side, this is good news to most of our readers and advertisers. Delivery via the mail is the gold standard for print media. The Post Office’s Every Door Direct Mail program (EDDM) reaches every single mail recipient in a zip code—virtually 100 percent blanket coverage of the people living there. Carrier delivery, by contrast, reaches 60 to 80 percent of the households.

Some zip codes may not be included in our mail delivery, which is based on reader and advertiser demand for the paper. If your home does not get the paper through the mail, you have other options.

  1. Look for the paper at one of our bulk delivery locations. The paper will still be free at these locations.
  2. Order a subscription to the paper via first class mail. Unfortunately we do have to charge for this, because first class costs more than EDDM delivery.

As always, we will continue to serve you with the hyper-local news you have come to expect and the biggest selection of local advertising messages of any newspaper in the community, as part of our mission to serve all of our community’s information needs. Please let us know how we are doing in this transition.
