Auburndale loses close game to Newman Catholic

MARSHFIELD — The Auburndale girls basketball team couldn’t hold onto an early second half lead and lost to Newman Catholic.
Auburndale traveled to Wausau on Jan. 7 to play a Marawood conference game against Newman Catholic. Auburndale led the Cardinals at the half, 20-10. However, half way through the second half, Newman Catholic started a charge and outscored the Apache girls, 41-27, to finish on top 51-47.
The win for Newman Catholic kept them undefeated and alone at the top of the Marawood conference, with a 7-0 record. Auburndale’s record fell to 4-3.
Kaitlin Kundinger led Auburndale with 12 points, Natalie Aue had 11, and Isabelle Hilber finished with 10 of her own.
Auburndale will host Chequamegon as part of a double header with the Auburndale boys team on Jan. 10 with a start time of 5:45 p.m. Newman Catholic will host Phllips on Jan. 10, game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
