Auburndale boys stay undefeated with home tournament win

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale hosted their holiday tournament on Dec. 27-28 and came out on top, after defeating Augusta and Neillsville.

On Friday, Neillsville played Weyauwega-Fremont, defeating them 91-56.

Alex King of Neillsville scored 28 points and led in rebounds with eight. Monte Diestler and Dominic Elmhorst added 12 points each, and Andrew Brown had 11.

Auburndale took on Augusta, coming out on top 76-33.

Cooper Weinfurter led the scoring for the Apaches, with 19, and teammates Cody Trowbridge and Hunter Wright each put up 12.

Neillsville and Auburndale met up on Saturday for the championship game. Auburndale took a lead of 24-16 into halftime. Neillsville came back in the second half and outscored Auburndale in a very hard played half, but Auburndale was able to take the win, 67-60.

Hunter Wright led in scoring for Auburndale, with 20 points, Cooper Weinfurter put up 18, and Fletcher Raab had 15.

Alex King was high for Neillsville, with 19, and teammates Braden Trunkel and Josiah Katcher each had 13.

Auburndale faces undefeated conference rival, Stratford, on the road on Jan. 3. Neillsville travels to Colby, Jan. 7.
