MARSHFIELD – Six bulbs have gone red during Wood County’s 2019 “Keep the Wreath Green” campaign.

Wood County fire officials said that two structure fires occurred the weekend of Dec. 7-8 – one in the town of Saratoga and one in Sherry – representing the first red bulbs of the season.  A third structure fire on Dec. 13 in the town of Marshfield turned the third light red.

On Dec. 19, fire the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department responded to an electrical fire in the basement of a Marshfield home, where Chief Scott Owen said the damage was “contained to the area of origin.”

Also on Dec. 19, the Auburndale Fire Department and assisting departments responded to a fire at Wiskerchen Cheese. The fire was contained to a 20×20 area in the roof cavity. The business suffered water damage, facility damage, and product loss due to the fire.

A sixth bulb went red on Dec. 20, when the Vesper Fire Department, and those providing aid, were dispatched to a home at 3915 Elm Road in the town of Seneca. The home is a total loss and multiple pets died in the fire.

From Thanksgiving and Christmas, the symbolic wreath is filled with green bulbs. A red bulb takes its place each time a fire occurs in Wood County.

The campaign is designed to raise awareness on preventing fires during the holidays.
