Marshfield hockey beats Medford, RAM co-op team

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield High School boys hockey team beat Medford 6-1 in a nonconference game at home on Dec. 20.
Ben Lawyer scored on an assist from Evan Weister at the 6:35 mark of the first period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, while Payton Smith had a pair of goals in the second period and Nick Urban added one later in the period to make it 4-0.
Sawyer Schindler scored 45 seconds into the third period and Weister scored a short-handed goal at the 5:51 mark to increase the lead to 6-0, while Medford scored at 9:32 to provide the final margin.
AJ Trierweiler finished with 24 saves, Smith recorded two goals and one assist, Urban had one goal and two assists, Lawyer totaled one goal and one assist, and Tristian Reissmann, Seth Peterson and Max Heller each had one assist.
“We played a good team game tonight and really controlled the first and third period,” said Marshfield boys hockey head coach Eric Bowman. “It is good to see production on the scoresheet from different players.
“We came out flat in the second period and AJ made some nice saves that kept the momentum of the game in our favor,” he said. “Our team is starting to come together and we are seeing some positive signs before the holiday break.”
The Tigers got out to a 7-0 lead in the first period and never looked back in a 13-0 win over the Eau Claire Regis/Altoona/Chippewa Falls McDonell Catholic (RAM) co-op team on Dec. 21.
The Tigers added a goal in the second period to go up 8-0, then scored five more goals in the third period to close out the win. Trierweiler had four saves in the shutout. Nick Urban, Evan Weister and Damyon Hains each had two goals, while Noah Peterson, Ben Lawyer, Peterson, Payton Smith, Ian Haugen, Heller, and Hoyt Hall each scored one goal.
