UWSP at Marshfield campus evacuated

MARSHFIELD – The UW Stevens Point at Marshfield campus was evacuated after Marshfield police received a report of a man with a gun.
On Dec. 17, shortly before 5 p.m., Marshfield Police were dispatched to the campus where two students reported seeing a disoriented man, with what appeared to be a handgun in his jacket pocket. The man was wearing a green stocking cap and appeared lost, looking for a staircase.
Marshfield, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Wood County officers assisted in evacuating, clearing, and searching the campus for the man.
Through investigation, it was learned that the campus is open to walkers in cold weather. The suspect was later identified as a local male who was walking the building, became lost, and asked two students for directions out of the building. Police have confirmed that the subject did not have possession of a weapon on campus, although the man did have gloves protruding out of his jacket pocket.
