Auburndale pulls away from Tomahawk for season-opening win

MARSHFIELD – The Auburndale High School boys basketball team won its season opener, as it went on the road and beat Tomahawk (0-1) in a nonconference game on Nov. 26.
The Apaches (1-0) went into halftime with a 36-33 lead, and outscored Tomahawk 36-20 in the second half to pull away for a 72-53 victory.
Senior guard Cooper Weinfurter shot 9-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line, as he finished with 27 points and four steals to lead Auburndale.
Junior guard Hunter Wright totaled 18 points, seven assists and five steals; and senior guard Fletcher Raab had 13 points and four rebounds in the win for the Apaches.
Auburndale is scheduled to host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Dec. 3 at 7:15 p.m. and will be home again to take on Abbotsford Dec. 6 at 5:45 p.m.
