County approves 2020 tax levy

By City Times staff
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – During the November meeting of the Wood County Board of Supervisors, the board passed the county’s tax levy in the amount of $27,595,460 for 2019, collectable in 2020, with an operating levy of $5.51 and debt service levy at $0.7872.
The 2020 budget was approved at just short of $120 million.
“This is a pretty solid budget, from an honesty standpoint,” said County Board Chair Doug Machon. “I think it is better than last year’s. We bonded money for capital expenditures. It’s money we needed; it’s money that I believe that if we didn’t do the capital stuff that we are going to do with the bonded money this year, we would be doing it two or three years down the road and it would cost us more money.”
