MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic veterinary labs have been purchased by IDEXX Laboratories.
IDEXX is a developer, manufacturer, and distributor of veterinary products and services for pets and livestock, based in Westbrook. ME.
The company took over operations of the Marshfield Clinic Health Systems (MCHS)-owned labs on Nov. 18, and MCHS Director of Communications John Gardner said that the 90 employees affected will have the opportunity to continue in their positions.
“There were approximately 90 employees across four locations, all of whom were offered the opportunity to transition to IDEXX and continue to work in their current locations,” Gardner explained.
Gardner added that the decision to sell that division of the health system was based on the clinic’s direction in improving care delivery and will give the vet lab facilities an opportunity to grow.
“This decision was relative to the direction the health system is taking with an increased focus on care delivery,” Gardner stated. “IDEXX is a leader in the veterinary lab industry and was attracted to the expertise and industry presence that our vet lab had established over its history. The decision was made to transition that piece of the System to IDEXX, which creates an opportunity for the Vet Lab and Vet Lab staff to continue to grow and thrive in a competitive marketplace.”
The Marshfield Clinic vet labs were established in 1991. The former clinic division had four locations – one at 510 St. Josephs Ave., Marshfield, and the others in Middleton, Waukesha, and Cleveland, OH.
IDEXX employs over 8,000 staff in 175 countries worldwide, with 10 facilities in the United States.
