Marshfield football stopped short in playoffs

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers were stopped short in WIAA Division 2 playoffs, with a 44-37 loss to the Superior Spartans in Level 1 football competition on Oct. 25 in Superior.
Superior scored first, but Marshfield came back with a 17-yard touchdown run by Will Nikolai. That was followed up with a Joey Goettl to Wyatt LeMoine touchdown pass and a Kyle Tremelling field goal, to end the quarter 16-8 Marshfield.
The Spartans struck again in the second quarter with a 52-yard touchdown pass, which Marshfield followed up with a Goettl touchdown run. Both teams scored again in the second quarter, with Marshfield’s coming from a Goettl-LeMoine touchdown pass, ending the first half with Marshfield still on top, 30-22.
Superior was the only team to score in the third quarter, as they tied up the game with a touchdown and an added two-point conversion.
A Goettl to Simon Slade touchdown pass in the fourth quarter gave Marshfield another seven points, but the Spartans were able to grab two more touchdown runs and ended the game on top 44-37.
