Marshfield aldermen debate firearms sign

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Aldermen will consider removing a sign at city hall that reads “no firearms.” The Marshfield Common Council discussed the issue on Oct. 21, then tabled a decision until next month.
Marshfield resident, Todd Zieglmeier brought the idea to the council for discussion. Zieglmeier, who is a concealed carry permit holder, cannot carry at city hall without being charged with trespassing, and wants the sign removed.
He said:
Alderman Steve MacSwain was dead set against removing any signage from city buildings prohibiting guns or other weapons from those facilities.
MacSwain said:
Alderman Rebecca Spiros wants the signs taken down.
She stated:
City Attorney Harold Wolfgram said the issue at hand is not a code question, but rather a signage issue.
Wolfgram added:
The issue will be on the next council agenda for its meeting on Nov. 12.
