Rockets shut out by Ramblers

MARSHFIELD – The up-and-down football season continued Oct. 10 for the Spencer/Columbus Rockets. Coming off a close win in week seven, the Rockets were shut out by the Regis Ramblers in their week eight matchup at Carson Park in Eau Claire.
The Ramblers jumped out to a 15-0 lead after two first-quarter touchdowns, then stretched that margin to 29-0 by halftime with two more scores in the second quarter. Regis put the game away with a fifth touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, for the 36-0 victory.
The Ramblers outgained the Rockets 303-197, even though S/C ran 24 more plays than Regis. Eau Claire’s offense was much more efficient, gaining 8.9 yards per play, versus 3.4 yards per play for Spencer/Columbus.
S/C won the time of possession battle 36:03 to just 11:57 for the Ramblers, but the Rockets could not sustain enough drives, going just 5-for-15 on third down. The Rockets ran the ball 52 times for 152 yards. Regis put up 269 yards rushing, on just 30 carries. Austin Bacon ran the ball 16 times for 36 yards. Eden Jacobson had 11 carries for 36 yards. Dominic Post rushed for 28 yards on four carries. Will Gorst gained 26 yards on seven rushes.
Quarterback Gage Stratman completed five of six passes for 45 yards. Jacobson caught three balls for 26 yards. Bacon led the S/C defense with six tackles. Max McGiveron added five tackles, and he and Will Gorst combined on a quarterback sack.
The loss evened the Spencer/Columbus record at 4-4, heading into a regular-season finale with Altoona (2-6) at Ted Fritsch Field in Spencer on Oct. 18.
