Columbus class of 1959 celebrates 60 years

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic High School Class of 1959 celebrated their 60″‘ Class Reunion in September.
Classmates initially met on Friday evening at Rose Bowl Lanes for an evening casual social and dinner.
On Saturday, the classmates enjoyed a formal dinner at the Elks Club. A vocation was given by Mike Biechler of Hayward. This was followed by a presentation of the Senior Citizen Center Marshfield Ukulele Group and everyone joined in a sing-along. A program followed with speakers Mike Biechler and Karen Kappel Welniak.
A balloon release in honor of the 28 deceased classmates and Principal Father Rossiter was held on the steps of Tower Hall. Opening and closing prayers were led by Mike Biechler. Tom Zimmerman, Columbus Catholic School band director, also performed.
On Sunday morning, a mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for all Columbus class of 1959 members, with a breakfast following at The Rivers.
Committee members were Karen Kappel Welniak, Chairperson; Gretchen Beining Zimmermann, Karl and Cathy Zimmermann, Wendle David, Nancy Dohm Dischinger, and Rainy Kipp.
The class will gather in two years to celebrate their 80th birthday.
