MARSHFIELD – Marshfield High School’s class of 1956 made a donation to the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library that will provide local genealogists with information to assist in their quest for family information.
Class members, Audrey Moen and Marilyn Burger, presented Library Director Lori Belongia with a decade by decade chronicle of their fellow graduates.
“What they’ve done is created a memorial book of deceased members of the class that takes it up through 2006… also, then, by decade the reunion information, who attended and pictures, a little bit of history on where people were. Genealogists are just going to go nuts over this,” said Belongia. “I do think that this is one of those things that really is a little treasure trove.”
“I couldn’t believe when we went through it what we actually had,” recalled Moen. “I threw out a ton of stuff out. I took it to our last summer event and I said, ‘Whoever wants, just take what you want.’”
The remainder of the memorabilia was donated to the library’s historical archives at a presentation on Oct. 4.
Burger said that it was interesting even for them to look through the information. “The percentage that stayed here locally is interesting,” she said,” and the ones that left, never came back.”
