Tigers win three straight

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers are playoff eligible after a 25-7 win over Wausau West on Oct. 4 at Thom Field in Wausau.
The Tigers overcame a 7-0 halftime deficit. West scored on the opening drive of the game, but the Tiger defense pitched a shutout the rest of the way. The Marshfield offense got going in the second half, putting up 15 points in the third quarter and 10 more in the fourth.
Tiger quarterback Joey Goettl had a big game, with 106 passing yards and 101 yards on the ground. But, it was the Marshfield defense that scored first, with a safety early in the third quarter.
The Tigers then got touchdown runs from Sam Hinson and Will Nikolai, to take a 15-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Simon Slade then hauled in a Goettl TD pass midway through the fourth quarter before Kyle Tremelling added a 32-yard field goal to round out the scoring. Nikolai had 10 carries for 65 yards. Wyatt LeMoine caught eight passes for 47 yards.
The Tigers are now 4-3 in the Valley Football Association West Division, and could win the VFA West title outright with a win over D.C. Everest on Oct. 11 at Heiting Community Stadium in Marshfield. The Tigers won the title a year ago, and shared with Wisconsin Rapids in 2017.
