STEVENS POINT – The Symphony Orchestra at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield will offer performances this October.

The UW-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra’s concert, themed “Pictures at an Exhibition,” will be held Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. The orchestra will perform Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” as well as two works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, “Finlandia” and “Andante Festivo.” The orchestra is directed by Andy Moran, assistant professor of horn and orchestral director.

The Marshfield Symphony Orchestra and Marshfield High School Strings will join in concert at Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m., at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield’s Helen Connor Laird Theater, 2000 W. Fifth St., Marshfield. They will perform classic favorites such as the “Russian Sailor’s Dance” and the “Bacchanale” from “Samson and Delilah.”

The Marshfield Symphonic Band will present “A Night at the Movies” Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., at the Helen Connor Laird Theater. Like the old television show, “Name That Tune,” the band will play a small section from each piece of music and the audience will have the opportunity to guess which film is being represented.

The Marshfield Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band are directed by Richard Brunson, assistant professor of music.
