Dons soccer ties in conference opener

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Dons soccer team walked away with a tie, in the conference opener against Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt (A/IS/R) held Sept. 3 at Griese Park.

Tom Nystrom scored on a penalty kick at 12:03, but A/IS/R came back with a goal of their own from Ethan Johnson, to tie it up at 38:39.

Twenty minutes later, A/IS/R scored off a penalty kick by Flynn Peterson.

Kellen Delaney, got assistance from Dylan Porter to tie it up at 86:43, ending the game at 2-2.

Wyatt Drexler led Columbus in saves with nine, while Mason Czech led A/IS/R with nine as well.

The Columbus Dons are now 1-0-3 overall, conference 0-0-1.

They will next meet Northland Lutheran on Sept. 5.
