Rafters take nightcap in doubleheader against Wausau

WAUSAU – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (10-6) moved into a tie for first place in the Great Lakes West Division by splitting a doubleheader with the Wausau Woodchucks (7-9) on July 21.
The Rafters rallied late in game one but could not come back and fell 4-2 in game one. Anthony Galason had two RBIs with a single in the seventh inning and Neil Abbatiello gets the loss with six strikeouts as the starter.
In game two, Wisconsin Rapids jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two RBI double by Roman Trujillo in the fourth inning. In his first game as a Rafter, Aidan Huggins hit an RBI single in the sixth and another run scored on the play to make it 4-0 Rafters.
Nathan Hemmerling pitched six shutout innings to get the win as the starter for Rapids, striking out five batters and giving up just three hits. Jimmy Borzone closed the game in the seventh to secure the Rafters’ league-best ninth shutout of the season.
